Tapped out in the West
The team at Guests on Call is starting the New Year out with a media release on water issues in the American West. Water, like oil, is getting more scarce and more valuable. There are contributing factors, like industrial production of energy and food, that are polluting groundwater and rivers.
Many Hydropower dams are up for relicensing. Now is the time to step up public participation in the relicensing hearings to demand more sophisticated technology to ensure the health of our rivers.
The health of rivers also affects the sea. There are many "dead zones" at the mouths of rivers around the United States.
It is essential to support alternative energy solutions, like wind power and solar power. Alternative energy solutions could help ease the demands on our water bodies and lessen pollution.
