A Call to Action: Energy and Global Warming in the West

During this year's Oscars, we saw Al Gore's film, An Inconvenient Truth, win two Oscars. Shortly thereafter, five governors (California, Oregon, Arizona, New Mexico and Washington) agreed to take action to address and combat global warming. Even Wal-Mart has claimed that they will try to "green-up" their practices.

The national discussion of, coupled with concerns about, global warming is fueling a change in energy policy in the American West. The "New West", a culture and economy less and less reliant on resource extraction, is developing renewable energy policies that can help address global warming concerns.

Global warming and climate change threaten many of the natural landscapes of the West, from Montana's Glacier National Park to Alaskan frontier to desert lands in Arizona. Climate change could seriously alter our wildlands and wildlife habitat and threaten human civilization in the West. These concerns are shared by diverse groups, like hunters and fishers, environmentalists and energy experts, business owners and entrepreneurs, all who are pushing policy makers for a change.

Please see Mainstream Media Project's newest media release on global warming, climate change and extraction of resources vs. renewable energy production.
